Gérald Darmanin, the interior minister of France, has pledged his “solidarity” with Spain in response to the “ignoble attacks” that took place on Wednesday in the Algeciras neighborhood of Cadiz and resulted in the murder of a Catholic sacristan.
Since the suspected attacker entered many churches, Darmanin has sent his condolences through Twitter in a message to his counterpart, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, to Spanish “friends,” and in especially to the Catholic faithful.
In recent years, France has had a number of attacks on places of worship, including one that took place in a church in Normandy in April 2016 and resulted in the death of a priest. The Islamist terrorist organization known as the Islamic State took credit for this deed.
